Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 29, 2026

The short version: Modulo is built so you can listen without creating an account, giving us your name or email, or paying for access. Free radio. No account. No email. No payment. Just press play. Favorites are synced using an anonymous Firebase ID. Temporary favorite-share links store a compact copy of the stations you choose to share. Recently played stations, volume, playback preferences, and diagnostic logs are stored on your device unless you choose to share them with us.

Who We Are

Modulo Radio ("Modulo", "we", "us") is a free web and Android radio player available at moduloradio.com. It allows users to discover and listen to live radio stations from around the world using the Radio Browser community database.

If you have any questions about this policy, you can contact us at moduloradio@zohomail.com.

Information We Collect

Modulo does not ask you to provide personal information such as your name, email address, phone number, payment information, or contact details. You are not required to create a personal account to use the app.

When you use Modulo, Firebase Authentication may generate an anonymous user ID. This ID is a random string with no direct connection to your identity. It is used to sync your favorited stations across sessions and devices and to protect your saved favorites from access by other users.

Specifically, Modulo itself does not ask for or intentionally store:

Standard internet requests still involve technical information such as your IP address being visible to hosting providers, Radio Browser, radio station stream servers, and other third-party services described below.

Data Stored on Your Device

Modulo stores the following data locally on your device using browser storage, app storage, or similar local mechanisms:

You can clear local data by using available clear/reset controls in the app or by clearing your browser or app site data in your device settings.

Data Stored in the Cloud

Modulo uses Firebase Firestore to sync your favorited stations so they persist if you clear your browser data or use another device. The following may be stored in Firestore under your anonymous user ID:

This data is protected by Firebase security rules intended to ensure only your anonymous session can read or write your own favorites. No other user should be able to browse your private favorites document.

Modulo also lets you create temporary share links for your favorites. When you create a share link, a compact copy of the favorites list you choose to share is stored in Firestore under a randomly generated share code. Anyone with that exact link can view and import the shared favorites list. Share links are intended to expire after approximately 24 hours and do not include your name, email address, or other personal contact information.

Android App and Background Playback

On Android, Modulo may use a foreground media playback service so audio can continue when the screen is off, when the app is in the background, or when you use lock-screen, Bluetooth, or car controls. This service may show a persistent media notification while playback is active.

To improve playback reliability, the Android app may monitor whether the active connection is Wi-Fi, cellular, or another network type. During poor Wi-Fi conditions, the app may request a cellular network and start a second muted player to warm up a handoff before switching playback. This process is designed to reduce audio interruptions. We do not use this to determine your physical location.

The Android app may also check now-playing metadata through Modulo's Netlify function so the app, notification, lock screen, Bluetooth, and car display can show the current track title when available. That request may include the station stream URL, station ID, and whether the station uses HLS.

Third-Party Services

Modulo uses the following third-party services:

Cookies

Modulo does not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies. We use local browser or app storage for preferences and playback state. Firebase may use local storage mechanisms such as IndexedDB to persist your anonymous session locally.

Children's Privacy

Modulo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Modulo, contact us so we can review and delete it where applicable.

Your Rights and Choices

Since Modulo does not ask for a personal account, we generally cannot identify a specific person from app data alone. You can still control the data associated with your anonymous session:

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Modulo after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
