MODULO RADIO
A radio app that keeps playing when your Wi-Fi drops
Modulo Radio's Android app is designed to keep a station playing through the things that usually interrupt internet radio. That means walking out of Wi-Fi range, a weak connection, or a stream that quietly stops sending audio.
Wi-Fi to cellular, without the gap
When your Wi-Fi gets weak, Modulo's Android app prepares a cellular connection in the background, starts a second muted copy of the stream on it, and switches over once it's ready. You hear a short crossfade instead of a long silence or a restart.
When a stream misbehaves
- Some streams stay connected but stop delivering playable audio. Modulo notices when that happens and reconnects.
- If a station stops responding, Modulo retries several times on its own. If the station is one of your favorites, it then tells you it isn't responding. If you were just browsing, it moves you to another station.
Listening in the background
- On Android, playback keeps running with the screen off, and you can control it from the lock screen, the notification, Bluetooth headphones, or your car.
- A sleep timer stops playback after 15, 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes, fading out over the last 30 seconds instead of cutting off.
- The web version also reconnects on its own when a stream drops.
How much data it uses
That depends on the station's quality. A typical 128 kbps stream uses about 58 MB per hour, and a 64 kbps stream about 29 MB per hour. Modulo shows each station's bitrate so you can choose.
What Modulo doesn't do
- It can't play without any connection. In a total dead zone, playback pauses until you're back online.
- It can't fix a station whose own server is down. It only keeps your side of the connection steady.
